San Antonio’s Richard Orsinger Featured in Texas Center for the Judiciary’s ‘Family Law Update’ Video
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio attorney Richard R. Orsinger relies on his dual expertise in Family Law and Appellate Law to detail the significant changes in Family Law resulting from the 83rd Texas Legislative session in the Texas Center for the Judiciary’s “Family Law Update for 2013” online video presentation.
Produced exclusively for educational viewing by Texas judges, the video offers a thorough explanation of changes in Family Law and related new rules, which went into effect Sept. 1. Among the most notable developments analyzed by Mr. Orsinger are those in the law applying to same-sex marriages as a result of the U.S Supreme Court's decision in the U.S. v. Windsor case.
The video also explores changes to the maximum amount of child support courts can order; enforceability by contempt of spousal maintenance; attorneys’ fee awards in divorce cases; and inclusion of companion or service animals in protective orders. Also included in the video is a discussion of the new law prohibiting anyone convicted of sexual assault of a child from being appointed as guardian for minors, and a change in the Texas Penal Code mandating a sentence of life without parole for a second conviction for a sexually violent offense.
“There are a number of updates that went into effect this year that will be central to countless Family Law decisions across the state. Through this video, the Texas Center for the Judiciary is working to make sure that the state’s judges are aware of the updates and their application to the Texas Family Code,” says Mr. Orsinger, a longtime member of the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee and head of the San Antonio office of Orsinger Nelson Downing & Anderson, L.L.P.
